Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao organized an exposition titled The Golden Age of Dutch and Flemish Painting.
The exposition was a showcase of a large part of the Städel Museum collection. The communication department of the museum asked for a poster not using the paintings of the collection as a part of the artwork.
The is a visual metaphor combining typography and photographic illustration, showing golden script being brushed onto a golden canvas. A blue tulip, commonly recognized as a symbol for the region and its culture, is used instead of a brush to represent painters and craft while the predominant golden tones support the theme of the exposition.
